The hype for MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name) has been huge since the star teased it on social media last year.
The video has everything: alien sex, snake-licking, pastel Marie Antoinette wigs, Greek references. But perhaps its most prominent character is Satan, whom Lil Nas X seduces with a lap-dance in the video after riding a stripper pole to hell, then steals his horns.
The rapper’s dad sent him a text praising the rapper’s creativity and expressing how proud he was of him in all-caps. The rapper shared a screenshot of the message on Twitter that read: “Very creative video. I got through it. Congratulations. Live life on your terms. Very PROUD of you.”
In a post to Instagram, Nas X posted a letter to “14-year-old Montero,” seemingly referring to his younger self.
“I wrote a song with our name in it. It’s about a guy I met last summer. I know we promised to never come out publicly, I know we promised to never be ‘that’ type of gay person, I know we promised to die with the secret, but this will open doors for many other queer people to simply exist,” he wrote.
The singer came out as gay in July 2019.
Lil Nas X co-directed the visual with Tanu Muino. It was produced by UnderWonder Content with visual effects by Mathematic.
