Actor Evan Peters is set to play “Milwaukee Cannibal” and convicted serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming Netflix show, “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.” Peters will be joined by Scream Queens star Niecy Nash.
Unlike previous depictions of Dahmer’s story, this one will focus on his victims and the police incompetence and corruption that allowed him to kill for so long despite being reported by neighbours multiple times. The series spans the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s and ends with Dahmer’s arrest in the early ’90s. He was charged with 17 murders, convicted of 16 of them in 1992, and sentenced to 16 life terms in prison. Although he was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and psychotic disorder, he was found to be mentally fit to stand trial. On November 28, 1994, 34-year-old Dahmer was bludgeoned to death by a fellow inmate at Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage, Wisconsin.
On working with Murphy on the American Horror Story series, Peters said “I trust him and his vision and his writing and directing and sort of him overseeing everything. I know there’s a bigger plan, and so I always throw it up to him, and I say, ‘I’m in your hands. Let’s do this. Whatever you need me to do.’”
Murphy is no stranger to the true crime genre. His series American Crime Story has filmed two seasons. The first covered the OJ Simpson murder trial, and the second season told the story of Andrew Cunanan’s murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace. An upcoming third season will tell the story of the Monica Lewinsky trial. It stars Beanie Felstein as Lewinsky and Sarah Paulson as her confidant Linda Tripp.
There’s no release date for Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, but Murphy’s latest limited series will be coming to Netflix in the near future.
