“Light” is a medium-length drama (44′) directed by Taiwanese Adiamond Lee. With a story which is heart breaking, but nice to follow.
Light was sexually assaulted by his stepfather and deprived of any form of love. In the aftermath of his mother’s murder, the only blood relative he had left, Light finds himself unable to escape the place he can hardly call home and is eventually forced into prostitution to be able to make ends meet. Meanwhile, Shuo, an undercover police officer, is heading an undercover investigation to catch the culprit behind a drug cartel by working in a tailor shop. In the course of his inspection, Shuo unexpectedly comes across Light who is found bashed up by one of his clients. Shou, then, rescues the unconscious Light and provides him with shelter until he can recover.
Physical and emotional abuse, family trauma, rape, prostitution, sadomasochism… it’s not an easy narrative. Considering Adiamond Lee’s work in HIStory, there has been incredible progress in building language and narrative. The technical quality is fabulous in special dark/nighttime environments. And there is Jed Chung we liked in others dramas and we think we will hear more and more about him.
It’s a story with tremendous potential, but we’re left with the feeling that something was missing. The narrative develops calm, building the relationship between the two of them calmly, with communication, showing the growth of their feelings for each other, as we ll as working more on all the issues behind Light’s traumas.

P.S. You can find it on GagaOOLala (Portico Media is the producer of the movie and the mother company of GagaOOLala) and we believe it deserved to be seen. And there are some other movies we will talk about which are to be found on the platform.
